At a woodworking plant’s production facility, the wood shavings collection system installed next to the plywood sheet lifter was causing problems. The collection bins were located high up, next to the fans, which made emptying them an awkward and time-consuming task for maintenance technicians. In addition, the collection bins had no dust filters, so fine wood dust was constantly released into the air of the production hall and degraded the working environment.
The solution was designed and the necessary materials were supplied by a partner company, while the Maintest Grupp OÜ team was responsible for the installation and construction work. New collection separators were built and installed on the floor, and the exhaust air was directed through dust bags, which significantly reduces the amount of wood dust entering the production hall. Because the work had to be carried out on the client’s plant maintenance day, the entire installation had to be completed within one long working day so as not to disrupt the production process the following day.
Thanks to the new solution, the client can now conveniently clear the wood shavings from a collection bin located on the floor, instead of climbing on top of the machines to empty bins. This frees up maintenance technicians’ time, which can now be directed more than before to work that is more critical for production. The air in the production hall is also noticeably cleaner, as significantly less fine wood dust is released into the environment than before.
We have installed similar collection separators on the client’s production equipment before, and experience shows that the solution has proven itself well in production and the client is satisfied with the result. This confirms that well-thought-out installation and construction work, where each party has a clear role, helps improve both working conditions and the efficiency of maintenance work on the production line, without requiring a prolonged production shutdown.
