PLC/HMI Backup Readiness Check

Check how ready your PLC, HMI/SCADA and drive backups are for a fast recovery after a failure.

Result: PLC/HMI/drives backup readiness

Strengths

    Biggest gaps

⚠️ A missing or outdated PLC/HMI/drive backup can extend downtime after a failure from hours to days, since the program cannot be restored quickly. Check and update backups regularly, not only after an incident.

      How the calculation works

The checklist has 16 questions in five weighted categories: PLC programs (30%), HMI/SCADA screens (20%), frequency converters and drives (20%), access and documentation (15%), and responsibility and process (15%). Questions are rated 0–4 and the result is a weighted average of 0–100: below 40 is critical risk, 80 and above very good readiness.

Example: if only PLC (30%) and HMI (20%) are fully backed up and the rest are missing, the result is 50/100.

      Frequently asked questions

Why is PLC program backup important?

If a controller fails and there is no fresh backup, restoring the machine can take days or weeks.

      What should I back up?

PLC programs, HMI/SCADA projects, drive parameters and documentation of settings and passwords.

How often should I back up?

After every change and regularly. Keep copies in at least two separate places.
