Recommended annual maintenance budget = asset replacement value × benchmark percentage (3% by default, adjustable 0.5–15%). The budget is split into five standard categories: preventive maintenance 40%, corrective 30%, predictive 10%, spare parts 15%, and training and other 5%. Optionally you compare it with current spend: below 80% is underfunded, 80–120% matches good practice and above 120% exceeds it.
Example: a replacement value of EUR 2,000,000, 3% and current spend of EUR 45,000 give a recommended budget of EUR 60,000, a shortfall of EUR 15,000 and a ratio of 75%, i.e. “underfunded”.
